Mozam Prez Willing To Talk

Mozambican President Armando Guebuza has said he is quite willing to speak with Afonso Dhlakama, leader of the former rebel movement Renamo, but will not negotiate changes to the law with him.

Speaking to the Mozambican reporters who accompanied him to the SADC (Southern African Development Community) summit in Pretoria, Guebuza said "The leader of Renamo is a political leader in our country, he's a Mozambican citizen. If he wants to speak with me, he can do so. I have no problem about him peaking with me".

Community Service website from Obama Administration

The President-elect Barack Obama has initiated a new website to promote community service called www.USAservice.org
In the spirit of Martin Luther King Jr. the website provides resources to community organizations. There are a lot of organizations that should be listed that I know have done great work nationally and internationally.
Here is what they are about:
In 1994, Congress transformed the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday into a national day of community service to further commemorate a man who lived his life in service to others. As a tribute to that legacy and the very real needs of our nation, the President-elect and Vice President-elect have launched a national organizing effort on the eve of their Inauguration to engage Americans in service. This national day of service will fall on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, January 19, 2009 and, unlike past calls to service, President-elect Obama is calling on all Americans to do more than just offer a single day of service to their cities, towns and neighborhoods. He is asking all of us to make an ongoing commitment to our communities. Never has it been more important to come together in shared purpose to tackle the common challenges we face.

Benicio Del Toro "CHE"

Benicio Del Toro WINNER Best Actor - Cannes Film Festival 2008TRULY EPIC...BOLD Manohla Dargis, NEW YORK TIMES

Benicio Del Toro (gives a) soulful and charismatic performance. A.O. Scott - New York Times

CHE is a thing to be experienced...might well have been approved by Roberto Rossellini, envied by Francis Coppola, and even appreciated by its subject. J. Hoberman - Village Voice

CHE: THE ROADSHOW EDITION - we will screen both parts as one film with an intermission.

CHE PART I - THE ARGENTINE On November 26, 1956, Fidel Castro sails to Cuba with eighty rebels. One of those rebels is Ernesto "Che" Guevara, a young Argentine idealist and doctor who shares a common goal with Fidel Castro - to overthrow the corrupt dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista. Che proves himself an indispensable fighter, and quickly grasps the art of guerrilla warfare. As he throws himself into the struggle, Che is embraced by his comrades and the Cuban people.

THE ARGENTINE tracks Che's rise in the Cuban Revolution, from doctor to commander to revolutionary hero.

CHE PART II - GUERILLA After the Cuban Revolution, Che is at the height of his fame and power. Then he disappears, re-emerging incognito in Bolivia, where he organizes a small group of Cuban comrades and Bolivian recruits to start the great Latin American Revolution. The story of the Bolivian campaign is a tale of tenacity, sacrifice, idealism, and of guerrilla warfare that ultimately fails, bringing Che to his death. Through this story, we come to understand how Che remains a symbol of idealism and heroism that lives in the hearts of people around the world. Dir. Steven Soderbergh, USA, 2008, 262 min.

Slumdog Millionaire-Trailer

I first heard about this movie from a blog post by Common and I have been trying to see it ever since. Word in Hollywood and Bollywood is that it this encouraging movie from India may win a Golden Globe award. Will this be the next international film to break the North American market and snatch an Academy Award like Tstosi did for South Africa?
